Howdy. I've never LARPed, but I'm interested in getting started.
I live in southern Massachusetts, and I go to college in Warwick, Rhode Island. I couldn't find any near me (within an hour drive from my house, or from my school) that were active and accepting applicants. =/
Anyone care to enlighten about one I may have missed?
I'd also be interested if someone was just starting one up.
Thanks,
Lansain |

You might want to check the NERO and Alliance chapter list. Not sure who else would have groups down there. _________________ Just when you thought the worse was over. Here I am. :0) |

There are several LARPs in the New England area of many different varieties and styles. What kind of LARP are you looking for (live-combat or simulated combat style)? Any particular genre(s) (fantasy, steampunk, post-apocalypse, modern horror, other)?
Getting an idea of the kind of game you're looking for will help people suggest games more along the lines of what you're wanting to play.
One spot you may want to check is the New England LARP Calendar maintained by Christ Amherst:

As for distance of the LARP to where you live, most of us do need to drive or carpool to game site. It's a rare person that lives close enough they can walk to game. My bit of advice here is to find a game that interests you and then see if you can work out some kind of carpooling arrangement.
I'd also suggest you play in a LARP or two before starting one up (unless you're a veteran LARPer, in which case feel free to ignore this). You'll learn a lot about how a LARP works as a player, and those lessons will be invaluable if you decide to start your own up.

I checked NERO, and I liked the style of it, and was interested in doing it, but couldn't find one that was based within 45 minutes of myself or my college. D:

Live-combat, and all of the above genres. I'm into medieval, high fantasy, steampunk, post-apocalyptic(specifically, I love zombies). But I'm really open. I enjoy RPing. LARPing is the logical next step.

YOC is quite close to my school. =D And I have taken a peek at the NEIL site, but it looks like they're not doing anything until 2011. =X

Thanks all, for replying! =D
EDIT: (Also, a note at me being a college student, money is tough, and therefore higher event fees could hurt, but not a major major factor.) |

The Isles will be having an event at Ye Olde Commons May 21-23. I will posting a Blurb about it soon. We are always looking for new PCs!!!
We also look for NPCs - they don't have to pay, but do have to do what the GM/Plot requires of them to entertain the players. It might be best to NPC a game to see if it might be something you could get interested in.

I completely agree, and this was my intent.
---
I am still open to other local(ish) LARPage.
Also, upon realization of how many hours I actually work, money isn't a huge issue unless I expect to be popping more than 400$ per month. (I understand that meeting EVERY weekend isn't too common?) |

Most games don't run that often. Ours for instance runs 4 times a year. Nero is more often, about 8 times a year. Think the Nero and Isles run about 100 bucks or so including food for a weekend event. There are other systems, chapters that will be less.
Alot of larpers play more than one game either PCing or NPCing em. For instance, in the Accelerant and Nero systems at least - if you NPC, you get XP credit towards your PC in those systems. A number of folks in Isles, NPC other games and have the XP transferred to their characters in Isles. |
