It's been a while since I posted in the Forums. I just wanted to let everyone know that I have someone lined up to help me update the website. We will be moving to a new server with a new content management software. The new site will still have a forums section and the venerable LARP List. We are also looking to have Facebook and Twitter integration.

If there is any other functions/features you would like to see continued or retired, please let me know. We'll work on incorporating it to the new site.

I apologize for not updating the site for these past years. This update should get us up to speed. My hope is to keep LARP List relevant for the years to come. This will be a good 21st Birthday present.

Thanks - Shade

Is this with ARRO Inc. whom you had negotiated with earlier to purchase the website and had received a copy of your database to clean up? They did a great job of doing so at Wyrdcon and showed a nice, working demo at thelarper.com

THELARPER.com was created to provide a resource for the community. This site has been defunc for a long time. Alot of resources were spent in creating the site to be helpful and interactive. I think if 'Shade' is still interested after all this time, we can work together. No point in trying to compete with each other.

I am glad to see you post this news Shade. I will be doing some research independent of this LARP list, and will be sure to let LARPs I contact know to join up here.

Thanks again for providing this service to the national and international LARP community!

Sincerely,

Rick McCoy

You might want to check your search engine a bit, though. I found a disturbingly large number of dead sites listed that really should be excised.

The list we have was built using the list found on larplist.com on March 04, 2011.

Since then we have weeded the list through an automated bot, and suggestions, comments, and input from our users.

Our list isn't perfect but we are working diligently to keep it as updated as possible. Still though, it is by far the most accurate, modern, and interactive LARP list available. Our automated bot continues to run wedding out defunct sites and our users are continuously reporting dead links. Within a few weeks this process will be streamlined even further.

Since you mentioned it, and only because you mentioned it, what was the rationale for using the LARP list on this site, and then put it on the thelarper.com and label it new and improved? I'm still scratching my head on that one.

If you are creating a new LARP list, I would imagine that one should start from the ground up. It makes no sense (to me) to use someone else's list, clean it up, and then call it your own. And on the other side, you didn't contact these groups - an automated system is pinging them, which is not close to being the same. This list grew (and died) here; people came here to post to Shade's list, because they knew of the original larp list - they didn't do this with the list that you "copied".

Just an observation, as you are being upfront. I appreciate your candor. However, you should give credit to Shade's on the list (if you haven't already, I did not notice last time I looked) you have put up on thelarper.com.

I'm a stickler on giving credit where credit is due. But maybe I am in the minority.

Sincerely,

Rick McCoy

I agree with you. If you are going to use someone else's resources and then claim it's your own. Is pretty unprofessional.. And also called Plagiarism. Give credit where it is due. When I helped others to find larp groups and such. I send them ere. and gave Shade the credit they deserve.
