Post subject: LevelFive - One shot 'new style' of LARPing in CA.
Hey everyone,
I met these interesting guys at WyrdCon, one of them from Denmark where over 50% of the population have participated in a Live Action game, and they are producing a new type of theatrical LARP in San Jose in September. I promised to pass along the information. I'm going to try and make it. Pass this information onto other LARPing groups you know in the area - I think that this would be an incredible mental and emotional game to attend.
Mark
MORE INFORMATION:
WHAT: LevelFive is a live role-playing event which is focused on critically
exploring self-actualization seminars from the 1970's. The 3 day physically
and psychologically participatory performance will loosely follow the
structure of early Large Group Awareness Training
<http> sessions like
Erhard Seminars Training
<http> , but it is not a
re-enactment. This open-ended live role-playing environment with up to 75
players will provide a space in which players are free to explore
self-actualization issues with varying degrees of personal intensity, but
via an alibi or fabricated character. Players from the LARP, experimental
theater, academic, and performance art communities are expected to
participate.
WHEN AND WHERE: LevelFive will be organized twice:
* At the Hammer Museum of Art <http> in Los Angeles on
September 3-5, 2010 (50 spots); and
* At the San Jose Convention Center
<http> on September 16-18,
2010, during the Zero1 Biennial <http> (75 spots).
WHO: This performance is created and organized by the artist Brody Condon
<http> . The live game mechanics and management are being
developed by the Scandinavian based progressive live game designer Bjarke
Pedersen, along with character and workshop development by Tobius Wrigstad
and Monica Traxl. The event has been commissioned by the San Jose Zero1
Biennial <http> , and Machine Project
<http> in conjunction with the Hammer Museum
residency program in Los Angeles, <http> along with
special thanks to Southern Exposure <http> in San
Francisco.
Please feel free to spread far and wide, and PLEASE sign up
<http> on the website for the mailing list now, as we
need to begin reserving spaces soon as space is limited. Information
regarding official sign up will arrive in August.
Best,
Brody Condon

Updates:
Event Dates:
We are working feverishly to make sure the event runs smoothly, and have a
few changes in the schedule. The performance will be running from 9am to
Midnight, Friday September 17th and Saturday September 18th.
SOEX Workshop:
The roleplaying workshop (mandatory for participants) will be held Saturday,
September 11, 2010, 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Southern Exposure, 3030 20th Street,
San Francisco. The workshop is essential to help us help you prepare your
character and teach the core techniques we will use during the game.We can
hold up to 50 people. Please RSVP if you have not already.
Workshop #2:
If you cannot make it to the San Francisco workshop, we are holding an
alternative workshop at the San Jose Convention Center Thursday, Sep 16th
from 6-9. Unfortunately Tobias Wrigstad will not be present at the San Jose
Workshop.
SOEX Lecture:
If you are simply curious to know more about the background of the piece,
Brody's work, or the Nordic roleplaying scene, we will be presentating a
lecture called "Between Lived Experiences" A talk and discussion by Brody
Condon with Bjarke Pedersen and Tobias Wrigstad. It will take place
September 10, 2010, 7:30 pm. Also at Southern Exposure, 3030 20th Street,
San Francisco.
Questions?
Please write if you any questions or concerns. The official online signup
will begin August 15th, but if you are on this list we can guarantee you a
spot in the main event! We look forward to meeting you.
Best,
Brody
