Have you ever "freaked the mundane?" have you ever fodder´d the mere folk? have you ever stood and wonder why a street made of white materail is walked on by people wearing un-human clothes? Have you ever wondered how you got there?

Have you ever freaked the SCA? IF so,

HOW?

I´ve never freaked the mundane, well actually i, i have.

Once we all strolled (me and a party) into my hometown´s local and only corner market, they didn´t say anything, dont think they wanted to um, "upset" us, since most of us looked barbaric..

Other times at the renfaire, the poor saps who "choose" not to dress appropaitely.

I wanna hear other people´s experiences with freakin the mundane.

I know most LARP´s considering Freakin with the mundane illegal or bad conduct, but perhaps by accident?

Lemmie hear ´em!!

Oh btw, anyone know anything about LARP Monkey.com? I SOOO NEED masks, makeup, and other props!!!!!!!!!!!

-Vic ...oh ya always...excuse my any mistakes, haha

btw..happy V-Day

there is no V-Day in Packtin, but there is on Earth!

About 14 years ago when I was with the SCA , we had an event at the local campfire camp. A guy got stuck who was parking right outside the camp´s entrance. We all went to his truck to try to help him out of the ditch. Noone wanted to walk about 1/4 of a mile to get their truck and just then a truck drove by. We tried to wave him down but he just speeded past us doing about 60. We could´nt figure out what happened or why the guy was so freaked. About 10 minutes later a group of cars came down full of girls wanting to see the devil worshipers. I thought what is she talking about then I looked at our garb and relized we must have looked pretty scarey at the end of a dark road with robes and capes. We tried to explain the SCA to the girls but they kinda looked as us like a bunch of geeks and left.

Wow that´s a great story!

Classic, classic. Hehe, the car driving past about 60, that´s pretty good, almost passive freakin. Didn´t have to do anything but wave at him

Man, could you only imagine if you were LARPin and were monsters?

Now that would be interesting.

At the time this was very serious, but in hind site we did freak the Mundanes.

A few years ago on at my local LARP we had a three day Halloween event. Now the majority of the event was good, but during the event we had a visit from the Authorities. You see the site we play on has been our permanent site for about eight years now, we have a small town, several module sites, and even a graveyard. Well someone had written a module that had some undead helping a Wizard dig a grave (or something to that effect) for some poor woman that they were planning on axing. Well, she of course did not want to go, and when the PCs got close to the encounter she yelled for them to help her. This module lasted some time, and someone must have drove buy the site and heard the girl yelling or something like that (why the director had her yelling I will never know) and called the Police. So here come the police walking onto our site in the middle of the night when they come to two NPCs that are dressed up like undead digging a hole in the ground. One of the Cops actually trips and stumbles into the hole. They talk to the two NPCs and find out the people in charge are in the town so they head down there. When they walk into the village they are approached at our gates by a friend of mine who has two boffe swords. The Cops see him and a group of people in costume. They tell my friend to “put the sticks down”, and then shine their flashlights on me. Remember I am in costume, and Elf in Platemale. Then the Cop says “what’s going on here”. Then the people who were running the game at that time show up and straighten the whole thing out. No more NPCs yelling for help. But man, I’ve never gotten a look like that one Cop gave me again.

Neat! LOL but,...you shoud consider calling the police of that city or county before you do events, I do. I´ve learned from a lot of stuff like this from other people to call the cops with details. They don´t mind and usually take some "care" to it.

Nice, i could see a cop walking up to a guy with some boffer swords guarding a gate!

Oh I 4got about a very bad larp me and some friends created called paddedchainsawwarriorsatthemall.

THe basic premise was to pad real chainsaws with foam insulation and ductape.

Then you create a persona based on only one class called a guy with a chainsaw.

We started out with about 50 players and 1 mall.

Much to my dissapointment when you started the chainsaws and hit your opponents with them the duct tape and foam insulation fell off!

We are going to sue the Duct Tape AND foam insulation companies!

There were a few small injuries, decapatations, limblosses, and mabye 200-300 people killed that day. BUT MAN WERE THEY FREAKED OUT!

P.S.

Those people at the mall were jerks they tried to kick us out but those SWAT guys gave us that did´nt get shot a new home.

BTW this is a joke and only a joke.

Outside of LARP and D&D, my primary hobby is frightening the innocent.

My friends and I will frequently head to the mall outside the town where I live... it´s the biggest thing in fifty-some miles (the mall´s called Concord Mills, in Concord, NC), so there´re generally plenty of people there.

My personal favorite thing to do at the mall is the ever-popular "hug survey". One of my friends carries around a clipboard, and we wander around, asking complete strangers if they will give one of us a hug. We keep a tally of ´yes´, ´no´, and ´other´ responses. I think that, after our five or six surveys, the ´yes´ tally stands at roughly 2. We´ve had some interesting responses (including ´Hell nah, ain´t nobody want to give yer fat (arse) a hug!"), and we´ve been kicked out twice.

We also enjoy reenacting the various "Funny walks" scene from Monty Python´s Flying Circus.

Mundanes are such fun.

HAHAHA.. That is classic. Thou i´ve been a mall rat with my buddies bfore. That´s always fun. More or less makin the security mad than freakin. Thou we got high tech one year and had walkie talkies. Helped a bit. We´ve got kicked out of our mall once and the other malls we´ve been too we havent gotten kicked out yet. Of course, that was back in the day...no more mall-rattin for me.

Good freakin thou, maybe dress up next time?

Well, as to the IC aspect of freakin´ the mundane, we´ve been there and done that too...

Several of my LARP buddies, as well as myself, volunteered at the local Renaissance Festival this past fall. On the second-to-last weekend of the festival, we had that really nasty sort of rain that comes in from the side, rather than the top, so that there´s no hiding from it. Or, well, so it seemed.

So, basically, what we had was three acres of wet ground, churned into a four-inch-deep patina of carnivorous mud by the passing feet of several thousand persistant attendees.

Well, I, playing my homeless, pack-rat character with the 30-odd-pound costume, was one of the more absorbent people present... By the end of the day, I could easily have been mistaken for a compost heap on the go.

So, of course, it happened that we had to go to the mall (the one I frequent as mentioned above) that night, and I brought my friend and co-Rennie... I think my mom had to buy something, but that´s not the point... anyway, we ended up there...

Two teenage boys, wandering around the mall in thoroughly soaked 1500s-England-era clothes at ten o´clock on a Sunday... Needless to say, we drew some very interesting looks.

Back in my days with the SCA we used to freak the mundane all the time, mostly because in the SCA live steel is the norm, everyone has it.

a bunch of people walking into any resteraunt carrying swords and daggers tend to freak out people, even if the clothes don´t.

About five or six years ago a group of monsters in our LARP were sneaking through the woods and ran into a mundane couple in full coital bliss.

Unfortunately, the monsters crept away without notice, or incident. But even so, that has remained a very memorable encounter.

If I´d been there I´m SURE someone would have run away with boffer-burn on his butt.

I've got one that'll stick in my mind for a while, though I'm not sure that we really freaked anybody out. Me and some of my freinds were attending a weekend event. Back in thise day's we really didn't go to event's well stocked with food. We normally took BP and a loaf of bread.......Any way we decided that "real" food would be good. Somebody got the bright idea to go to B.K. At the time me and a couple of my freinds were playing dark elves. So we wore black make up and out hair was whited out, not to mention the period costumes. Any way I was always one to be a bit more cautious, I like my LARP and don't want to deal with ignorant people, my freind however had other ideas. I got cleaned up to go into town (as much as i could), and he went "as is".

When we got to BK to place our orders there was a African American guy working behind the counter. As my freind stepped forth to place his order evrybody pretty muched stopped what they were doing to check out the freeks. So I get a bit nervous, here's two white guys. One of us is actually painted black and one of the first people we encounter is an African American. The best part about it. the African American pokes the guy standing next to him in the side and says " See they even had brothers back then." He laughs, and goes back to work. Not sure if they were more freaked than me though. It all turned out pretty good though. Nothing like a whopper to satisfy after beating orc all day! Laughing
