|

A danish friend I knew about eight or nine years ago showed me the work of an artist by the last name of Hermann (I believe the artist was danish also). The comic series was called Maury-Skoven. The art was, in my opinion, the best I have ever seen of the type. It is a medieval setting and the skill and style of the artist were incredible. The books were printed in danish and several other languages, though never in english. I recently started to try and find a place where I can buy these online but I have yet to succeed. I am hoping to buy the danish version, (or norwegian if possible) so I can practice reading the language I am learning. If anyone has any idea where I might find these, please let me know.
Thanks. |

Update:
I found some new info. The artist is actually from belgium and his name is Hermann Huppen. The original title is Les Tours de Bois Maury. There were 12 issues and I believe and they were set in the 11th century. They have an extremely realistic vein. The danish version is called Tårnene i Maury Skoven.
Still no place to buy them that I have found. |

Googling yielded http://www.pegasus.dk/index.php?s=vse&si=2400
- which seems to offer the first 10 books of the 12-book-cycle. There seems to be a danish version, I found nothing hinting at a norwegian version. The comics appeared between 1984 and 2001 so exspect only used versions.
I am collecting comics by french and belgian artists for quite some time now (of other artists as well, of course) - and though I personally prefer other series to Bos-Maury I still think it is a very good story. _________________ "Like the moon goddess on her path eternal..."

Thanks for the info Rraurgrimm. I had actually found that danish website but from what I could tell, none of the books were on sale. The site is in danish so I had trouble reading it. But I did not find a way to order any of those books, and the entries said "out of stock" from what I could tell. If you saw otherwise, let me know.
Thanks again. |

Ok, I found one at pegasus that was in stock. I ran into a problem though. I ordered it, marked it as a foreign shipment, gave my address, and checked the paypal option. But I was never taken to a place to make a paypal payment. I am not sure how to get them the money.
Any thoughts?
Offhand, do you know if the kroner is about five or six to the dollar?
edit:
Raurgrimm, do you recommend any other artists or books from that area? |

I have no experiences ordering at Pegasus - I'd try to contact them via Email. I don't speak Danish (though I have been born and lived several years ~20 miles south of the border to Denmark, most Danish people understand either English or German).
I found the "Türme von Bos Maury"-series in German on several sites, including ebay, for about 13 € (1€=~1,25 U.S. $) per hardcover album.
A Danish Kroner should be at about 6 Kroner to the U.S. $.
Any other artists... - hmm, depends on what You are looking for. When it comes to "historical" comics, I'd have to ask a friend of mine. I'd recommend comics by André Julliard and "The Third Testament" by Alice/Dorison - mayhaps The Scorpion by Desberg/Marini.
I prefer fantasy to historical comics - there my favourites include:
"La Quête de l'Oiseau du Temps/The Quest for the Time Bird" by Loisel and Tendre
"Lanfeust de Troy/Lanfeust of Troy" and the spinoff-series "Troll of Troy" by Arleston/Tarquin (Arleston/Mourier)
"De cape et de crocs" by Ayroles/Masbou and
"Donjon/Dungeon" by Trondheim _________________ "Like the moon goddess on her path eternal..."

Ok, the books are on the way! Also, I found that some of the books were published in english very recently. But I ordered the danish ones for practice.
Raurgrimm, Dungeon looks like it would be pretty funny. Thanks for those recommendations. |
