Huh, that summer temperature would kill me... Oh, wait a minute, it almost did last summer...
I actually don't like to fight while it's raining and hate mud (it ruins my latex weapons...)
Cold weather is nice. You can go swimming or if you don't have a lake, you can always "swim" in the snow... I should make a larp with foreigners playing finnish people... Let's see how Hard Core can you get... +100 C degrees in the Sauna, -20 C outside, water about +1 C...
After that we can always have a hospital larp with flu epidemy or maybe even a icecube larp... (note to self : buy enough coke)

Yeah, but keep in mind that I said that last summer was one of the hottest on record. Our average summer stays around 70-80 degrees farenheit (21-26 celsius), with decent breeze and nice sun.

I have larped in -50 degrees farenheit, and it was a weekend event too!
lots of fun, I had a special deep cold costume made. dome tents are not an option, ( the snow collapes them, entombing you in sonw!)

Nolan, that would be -45.5 celcius... So pretty cool.
I personally have some scepticism about the accuracy of this statement, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, if you can satisfy my next question: Where did you play that has temperatures ranging to -50f so regularily, that you knew you'd need the special equipment that is required to survive a weekend in that temperature?
I have been camping out at temps -20 to -25c, and I also know firsthand how difficult it is to be able to do _anything_ at temperatures around -30c... Which is usual for northern Lappland (above the arctic circle).
Good point about the tents, though, although I would be more concerned about suffocating inside the tent then a good dome tent collapsing on me just because of snow. As long as the fabric holds, there should be no problem (as long as you have a first-rate winter tent and not a discount 'use only at summer'-tent)...

I am aware of how cold it is,
Northern michigan winters, with the wind directly off of Lake michigan
.. nipple shatteringly cold
-50 ( with wind factor) easily although in truth, its not my every day larp, but michigan is cold enough to warrant a extra special cold outfit
we only held like two events in that kind of weather, but man, is it extreme, people dying, just so they can go ressurect in a nice warm heated cabin (lol)
Felix
if there was an air pocket ahead of time, the air released from the snow would keep everyone ok, and it did in fact leave everyone ok in this particular situation (Or dumb luck, I suppose.)
the benefit of the extra padding on costume means we didnt feel the frozen pvc boffers as acutely. and let me tell you, that temperature caused many a weapon to die prematurely. No-one wore metal armor, cause leather is warmer!, and lots and lots of padded armors

Ah, you should've mentioned that you added the wind factor.
Now I can believe you. I usually don't put wind factor into temp calculations, mainly because it isn't the main problem when getting ready to go out in the cold. Sure, it might freeze the tip of your nose off, but wind doesn't kill you (short of a hurricane), ambient temperature will.
Also, wind chill factor is usually a 'little' exaggerated... The tables are reflective of a naked human standing in the weather IMHO.
Hmmm. Snow packs itself quite densely, though... And in a tent I'd kind of expect that pocket of air. But when you're sleeping with thee more larpers piled into the space meant for two, I'd worry about suffocation even without the snow!
(Especially with the standard 'cheapGM' larp menu, the pea soup)
Yeah, frozen boffers are a pain, I've nearly had my ear removed by one. Better leave the fighting to warmer climates, and besides, who really would fight a war (or adventure) in the middle of the worst winter? Except stupid northmen?

Alright, I know this is a very old thread, but I'm gonna post anyway- I'm in alaska. it gets to about a cool 80 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, sometimes up to mid- nineties, and tends to be below minus thirty in mid-winter. I agree with the Finns, most of you got nothing on us.
