Frankly, and I don't think I'm going to get a lot of arguments here, this forum is on its last legs.
There are loads of spam accounts, little genuine traffic, and the site itself isn't very recently updated.
Although I've been away, I did use this forum a lot until about 2006, and it's a shame to see the way it has gone. The UK forum, Rule7, is almost as bad, a rather characterless replacement for Pagga.net, which used to be really lively.
A lot of problems are due to Facebook - people are so averse to creating an account on another site. But facebook doesn't have the features that allow great conversations like a forum does.
So, whats to be done? There could be a market for a truly international forum - the UK is starting to have more players visiting continental games and vice versa.
Who owns and runs the domain? Can we do anything to sort out the problems, and either return Shade's to the glory days, or reinvent it as something else?
There's some free forum software called Vanilla that apparently allows users to login via Facebook - not sure of the technical details, but that could be the requirement to make a forum work in the post-facebook society. |

I really agree this site is worth saving. People come and visit here and there. We need to try and get a hold of everyone we know from Shade's that we have not heard from and have an "Online Reunion" of a sorts.
Pick a good date like first weekend in July.
I don't think I will ever stop visiting Shade's as it is now the only outlet for my LARP creativity and there is much more I want to share.
Many US LARPs tend to have a 3-6 year life span/growth and rebirth A.K.A. how long people are in High School or college and still don't have a full time life for the most part AND when these cycles go a good ten years or so with the having kids age of life LARPs and even websites tend to die.
Lord you mention Pagga! That was a great site! Too bad it is gone. Too bad all that info just disappeared into the ether like a huge amount of our old post did a few years ago.

Yeah majority of the north american larps tend to fizzle out after a couple years. Where as european ones tend to have a longer life span. Labyrinthe is a very good example. _________________ Just when you thought the worse was over. Here I am. :0) |
