Hey folks,
New to the forums. My name is Francis. Larping character's name is Mog. Several months ago myself and two friends expressed a unhappiness with the game we were in (dagorhir) and begain trying several more tradtional larps. Again we found ourselfs unhappy, the fighting was no real appeal.

We decied to start our own larp. A mix of what we loved about the fighting in Dagorhir, and storylines and more roleplaying options and options for non fighters. So here we are. Our Rule set is almost finished. Id say another month or so, with writing, then editing. We are also playtesting out the rules for Saftey and Playability. Figured I pop on in and get some advice for starting out, and advertising. We are working on a site now, but currently using a simple runboard forum for everything.

Francis

Hey Francis,

I've written several LARP articles about various topics, including new player recruitment and retention.

Other topics you might find of interest would be the "Business" of LARPing, Creating a LARP, the LARP Link Dump and probably some others. You can find all of the articles at my project's web site, Mortalis Games.

I'd also love to hear more about your project.

Hey Amber,

Well essential it is a Boffer combat, full contact excluding head shots. with a hopefully more mature theme and stories. We defined our "period" we are shooting for 900-1200 A.D. Europe. With a low magic setting. Magic is being a mixed of American Styled Effects magic and a take on ritual European style magic.

Um well if you wanna talk more shoot me a email or a instant message.

Is it literally set in medieval Europe, or in a fantasy setting that's similar in terms of technology and culture?

I've seen a few games set in historical times in the real world, with some mythical trappings, and they often work well. Having a history era as a setting gives players a lot fo sources of inspiration.

Its fantasy but for now we are limiting the era to that. such as dress, no 18th century pirates, no samuari yet. but the tech and majority of the culture are based in history. we may add that down the road but thats what we settled on. sorry should have been more specific.

While our website is being worked on I figured I would pop on and announce that we are now releasing our rules to new players and anyone intrested in reading them over. The rules are very simple and we are rather happy with them. we are still playtesting to see how they work and will be updating the rules to make things more clear if there are problems. So anyone intrested http://www.runboard.com/btalonnorlarp

So we shut down running the game for the summer, and took a short break to revampe the rules. We disliked the class system and the standard packet magic system and are in the process of stripping it away.

We have made the game more free form, classes, hit points and skill buy system are all gone. We removed all benefits of playing a race and we opened it up to about 20 standard fantasy races with 5 unique to your game. We also have settled on a action/adventure faster paced story telling style it works best with our full contact hard hitting style of gaming.

Magic has been changed to a Ritual system requiring more of a role player effort. and we have pushed up our garb standard. We shall be looking for play testers for the fall if your in the philadelphia south jersey area.
