Hail again all!
We were using the Mortalis LARP rules set, but with their annoucement that they are no longer supporting their LARP project I am in need of another ruleset.
I do not have the time to create my own, nor the money to buy a franchise of any major LARPs.
Does anyone have any links to any free use rules sets or at the very least a rule set that the owners are willing to let people use with permission?
We have looked at FanWar and a few others, but Im just looking for more options than what I have now.
Thanks,
Bob Huff

What are you looking for in the rules?
Low numbers?
Smaller amount of skills and powers?
I guess there would be a type that's as minimalistic as possible compared to something that's closer to 100 or so pages.
I have some rules that tend toward the minimalistic but can be added to if needed...I will email the ones I wrote for Club Crimson _________________ Club Crimson: a Vampire Nerf game - http://www.biomechine.net/clubcrimson/

We are going to use FanWar for the time being. My priorities on the system are:
Ease of use
Low Memorization Requirement
Streamlined Combat Magic
Dynamic Tradeskilling
I dont really think we need 20 different weapon skills. You should be able to use whatever you pick up. |

Ah, well it is good that you found some rules.
I won't be sending you my set, while it has only a handful of weapon skills to cover everything, there is a bit of more memoraization. But if you are interested still. Let me know.
Good luck and have fun! _________________ Letting players live shows the GM has s sense of humor.. |

I just remembered seeing a set of rules that was literally under 20 pages, I dont remember where or what it was called. Though, it may be this old set I stumbled upon called LRPG by someone named Vollmer or what not. Not sure, Ill take a gander in my files though. Would that be of interest? It might be too simple.

Ease of Use -
I know a rulebook will be long and exhaustive, but I want something that will be easy to understand and teach.
I think one of the reasons some LARPs can have problems retaining players is that the rules system is overbearing and daunting, creating confusion and discomfort for the new player causing them not to re-appear at the game.
Ease of Memorization - Adin, goes hand in hand with Use. This really pertains to the complexity of spell effects. Combat spells shouldnt be that hard for your target to understand, and the call should be short and transmit all the info a target needs to know.
But ritual cast spells I can deal with being complicated, as they should be. |

Have you read the rulebooks I sent you?
Club Crimson and Frontiers are 10 pages and very, very easy to use. LARP rules don't have to be cumbersome to be fun...as a matter of fact, I've been told by some people who played at the first Club Crimson event that the simple rules made it much easier to get into character and focus on the events happening in the game, and they found they didn't spend nearly as much time trying to figure out the rules during the game. A huge bonus!
Anyway, the nice thing about the Club Crimson is that they are very easy to customize...for example, by player request, I added Hunter and Wraith which added only 2 pages so I still have a 12 page rulebook. Not bad!
My offer still stands if you would like me to customize the Club Crimson rules for your game, just let me know and let's chat _________________ Club Crimson: a Vampire Nerf game - http://www.biomechine.net/clubcrimson/

Actually, I love your club crimson rules set. I prefer it very much over the nWOD MET system. I would like to give a spin for a vampire game!
Also, your steampunk set might just see some use down here as Im thinkign of doing a Steampunk LARP halloween party! |

Hey thanks a bunch! I'm glad you like them and of course you are welcome to use them.
I'll updating the Club Crimson rules with Wraith and Hunter added here pretty shortly. I'll email it to you when I'm finished, if you like.
If you do start a Club Crimson-based game in your area (awesome!), we should totally link share and maybe leave it open for traveling players to play their characters in both areas....just tossing some ideas around.
Hey isn't this how the White Wolf Fan Club aka the Camarilla got started?
Have fun! _________________ Club Crimson: a Vampire Nerf game - http://www.biomechine.net/clubcrimson/

I am very interested in expanding my game all along the country....just need to find people that are willing to take this game to the next level. I believe it will be successful and we can give these big national games a run for their money...
Just a thought |
