Been a long while since I last visited. Had my hands full of our organization's 10th Anniversary. Like year and a half full of larp's. Next weekend will be the last one, the actual gala, which is currently late by few months, but I really don't care.

Last year had some crazy experiences. Skalds singing adapted Beowulf about the deeds of some player heroes. Scifi larps with computers malfunctioning for real and programs disintegrating few hours before the game. Lot's of Lovecraftian mythology. Endless finnish aftergame parties with sauna, booze and wrestling in the snow. Pretty young maidens and bottles of scotch for old dm's like yours truly. And of course, the amazing food our Guild has to offer. I achieved kind of seniority by joining the few finnish DM's that have organized more than 50 larp events during the past 15-20 years or so (mine came in just about 10).

Now, things are moving on. Writing the next true epic campaign, this time visiting my dear HârnWorld. Chronicles of the Lourney Family will begin next may. Another project is kind of Wasted West / Fallout / Paranoia style game called Vault 22, with around 300-400 players. And our fourth medieval Cthulhu game with about 150-200 players. So the future looks nice for the Guild and me.

Now, I would like to hear from you guys since I've been away too long to read all the new posts Wink

Hey Jupe, nice to hear from you. That computer meltdown sounds painful, definitely one of the dangers of a high-tech larp.

I'm not doing as much larping or forum-whoring as usual since Mordavia finished in 2006, focusing on real life for a while but still have a lot of larp projects ideas bubbling away.

Well, all good things come to an end. I managed to kill my Druid-campaign (finally) even though there has been nightmares about hosting one more event... Very Happy

Work and studies take a ton of my time, but then again, I kind of cherish the moments when I have time to do some serious writing. It has also forced me to work with realistic deadlines. Players seem to appreciate that Smile

Yeah, coming to an end had been the plan for years and it was just a matter of the course of play reaching a natural conclusion. It was a classic "big bad enemy wants to destroy the world" setting, so the natural end came when the enemy was defeated. I would have been equally happy if it had ended with the world being destroyed, though.

Funny you should mention nightmares. I don't think I've had any about the end of Mordavia, but when we were starting it I had nightmares about running really bad games. Good motivation to do them well! I don't think those dreams are much use to you now that you've finished Druid though. Wink

I think I need some downtime after five years of running a campaign, it's not just that I have a lot on in real life (although I do), I need some time to not be trying to entertain a hundred-odd people for a while.

I've been working on a trio of LARPs based on Broadway Musicals. The first one was an amazing success and I'm hip deep in writing for the second one. And then, after the third one, I'm semi-retiring. No more big, weekend long, 70+ player larps for me.

That's not retirement, that's just a late onset of sanity. Organising big weekend games for fun is like running marathons: it's as much a mental illness as a pastime.

Damn. I am so long behind Ryan and Eldrad in my posting totals. I need to start spamming again. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Update on Jupe :
Got engaged year ago, the big day is in 2011.
Still writing larp's, currently running HârnWorld based campaign (low fantasy) , still building Vault 22 (see before) and lot's of one shots (just to mention a few : Ars Magica, Hobbits, WW2-Ravenloft crossover) ...
Just spent 4.5 months this spring as a social worker in a boarding school that teaches via larping (in Denmark), visited Knutepunkt 2009 in Norway and Festeval 2009 & European LARP Convention 2009 in Denmark, thinking of going to Germany for Mittelpunk 2010. Lot's of Conventions.
I am also thinking of creating a LARP about problems that disabled people have in Belarus (to be played in Belarus), making this project with the local human's right group.

That's the update. Now more posts to take back my posting King status Wink

The day I lose interest in LRP/LARP is the day I shuffle off the mortal coil as it were. Sure whne I get up there in years I might not be able to participate in a physical level. But wouldn't stop me from running or helping out.

Ryan as far as sanity goes. Only if LRP/LARP has made your mundne life a mess. There is a happy medium where both can exist.

Jupe great to see you have returned.

Now as far as LRP/LARPS based on broadway shows. Nope not gonna touch them. If I was going to base off anything.. It would be off of Shakespeare plays.. Or for a more modern style.. A Alice in wonderland kind of LRP/LARP.

Hey Jupe, sounds like you've got plenty on.

What was the European larp convention like? Learn anything new about the scene over there?

Oh and hey - remember that Arthurian larp we talked about years ago? I finally wrote and ran it:

There's a link to the player guide down the bottom, which has the rules.

European larp convention...
yes, it would be nice to get some info about how it went.
(the organizes did way to little work on getting particepans in my opinion... at least here in DK)

and how was it compared to Knutepunkt...
