Flames Rising is happy to announce the launch of a new column! Michelle Webb is here to talk about Live Action Role Playing and she wants to hear from you! Life Imitates LARP will explore the hobby, offer up some advice to Storytellers and Players and generally discuss this hobby. Michelle brings years of experience in running large-scale and local games.
Michelle Webb has been a gamer since the age of 8 when she asked for her D&D box set and has never looked back. Coined the “Mick Foley of all things Nerdy” she has been a dog bather, radio show host, voice actor, anthropologist, Rocky Horror Picture Show cast member, smoking cessation coach, storyteller and currently works in the game industry.
So, stop by the first Life Imitates LARP post and share your thoughts on LARPing, ask questions and suggest topics for Michelle to discuss in future installments!

For the better part of a year, most of the churches of Adraveth have been embroiled in a holy war over a relic in the posession of the church of Gorvaak. The church of Jeredith has been leading the charge, believing the Gorvaakians will use it as a weapon, a claim they adamantly refute. Despite many proposals for peaceful resolution, neither side is willing to give in. People are disappearing, merchants are scared to travel the roads, and wearing an icon of your god could make you a target. Those who have chosen sides in the conflict face constant persecution from the nobles who refuse to tolerate crimes of any nature. Each side watches the other with suspicion, and the guard watches them both to maintain order as secret operations unfold. With no end in sight, donations pour in from the churches' supporters, and victory may be had by the side whose resources do not run dry. Deaths continue to mount as each side makes its offensives, and it seems the one certainty is that this war will have a victor. Only time will tell what the aftermath of that triumph will be...

The frontier town of New Calendale, nestled gently between the Whispering Woods and Dunford Bay is a scenic area for sure, but it's no destination for tourists. On the outskirts of civilization it's prone to goblinoid attacks, wild beasts invading from the forests, and all manner of shady characters passing through. Not to mention the common appearance of wandering undead and even extra-planar beings! Still, it's rich with opportunity and the town's settlers are making the most of their home.
Many adventuring sorts have also taken up residence here for their own reasons. Maybe it's for the excitement. Maybe it's to escape the past. Maybe it's a calling from their faith. Or maybe they simply have nowhere else to go. One thing they soon realize is that this place is filled with wonders to be discovered and things you can't experience anywhere else in the world. Untold adventure awaits when you live the magic at Realms of Adventure!

Hello, everyone! It's time for Auburn's monthly Changeling and Requiem games! The games will be held on the 2nd of July, which is this Saturday, or day after tomorrow for those of you with poor reading comprehension, time and date tracking skills, or who are simply big fans of having things explained to you.

Requiem
The court of Auburn is settling after some of it's biggest changes in years. With Alita de la Cruz and Fairfax Pennington dead, and the new prince's rule challenged by other powers in the city, the city is a political hotbed. Old enemies have become new allies, and there are still other threats lurking in the years of history behind the area, which no one can judge more than the recently destroyed Chief Investigator, Peter Locke. Though the mortal who challenged the rule of kindred is now dead, his spirit still persists, making running the city more and more dangerous with each passing night.

The court of Auburn has found itself dealing with new threats, an insidious, but strangely peaceful blood cult has been revealed to have potential ties to a dangerous enemy of the concept of regency. The local goblin market continues to be a mystery, moving from ally to enemy with a frequency that only denizens of the hedge could.

All times are Central (CST).
Changeling check-in starts at noon and game on is at 1pm.
Usually around 4:30-5, we break for middles, usually we all go to a restaurant together.
Requiem check-in begins at 6pm and game on is at 7pm. Usually runs until midnight game off. Rarely, we do afters and go to a restaurant together.
The game site fee is $5. This fee covers the entire day of play, both Changeling and Requiem, but if you only play one game, the fee is still $5. Please be ready to pay a site fee, we pay for our site and badly need it!
Your first game is always free!

Amtgard in Johnson City, Tennessee.
We are the Barony of Hawks Point. Our goals are to broaden our horizons outside our land, become a more visible group within Amtgard and forge ahead, working in conjunction with, and under, The Principality of Winters' Edge of Neverwinter for the promotion of Amtgard in the area.
Come out and join us in our Live Action Role Play (LARP) recreating the medieval swords and sorcery genre. All are welcome.
We meet each Sunday, around 2pm until (approximately) dusk at Winged Deer Park off of the Bristol Highway (using Mapquest enter the destination intersection of "Bristol Highway and Carroll Creek Road", Johnson City, TN). If you don't see us in the field near the boat ramp, come see us in the woods at the Frisbee Golf area (access road across the street from the boat ramp parking lot).

Late last year, the church of Gorvaak was able to obtain an artifact imbued with chaos energies, and each passing month has felt the growing consequences of this acquisition. With their possession of this "holy relic", they have the potential to gain many new converts. Fearing the consequences of this rise in power, the church of Jeredith is leading the charge to sway the masses away from Gorvaak's call. They've gone so far as to launch a massive infiltration of the services in the temples of Gorvaak throughout the kingdom. As tensions rise, the other churches continue to choose sides, and a full-blown holy war seems ever more imminent. Meanwhile, chaotic energy is leeching into the area around the town, and warped versions of the local inhabitants have begun appearing. Can the land ever be cleansed? And will the conflict between churches subside, or will the turmoil overtake the whole of the world?

The marketplaces of Drapier and Tirrian Paveral are always teeming with stories and rumors for those interested in listening. Yet this time rather than politics, the storytellers are filled with rumors of an abbey under siege and of haunted woods. Many, who hear the tales, worry not and find comfort in that what they are listening to is nothing but an entertaining ghost story. Yet for those few that have clashed against the dark; the tales of woods filled with flickering lights and chattering voices, of people trapped from sunset to sunrise are all too familiar. Something is wrong at the Abbey in Lady’s Haven.
